Motorway and merging practice in Liverpool

Joining faster traffic, holding a lane and changing lanes safely at higher speeds.

Merging is mostly about speed and timing. Ashraf builds it in stages: multi-lane arterial roads such as the Hume Highway and Elizabeth Drive first, then on-ramps where you match the speed of traffic, choose a gap and move across with a proper head check. Motorway access near Prestons and Hoxton Park makes it possible to practise the real thing once you are ready.

What you will work on

  • merging: Matching speed and joining moving traffic with confidence.
  • gap selection: Judging when a gap in traffic is genuinely big enough.
  • lane changing: Signal, mirror, head check, then a smooth move across.
  • blind-spot checks: The head check that catches what the mirrors miss.
  • speed management: Matching speed to the limit, the road and the conditions.
  • following distance: Keeping a safe gap that leaves room to react.

Who this suits

Learners whose fundamentals are steady and who are ready for faster, multi-lane roads.
